Important School Closure Information

19th March ‘20

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will be aware, the government has instructed all schools to close, as from the end of school on Friday 20th March 2020, to slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).   As such, St Peter’s CE Primary School will be closed from 3pm 20th March ’20 until further notice.

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of “key workers” (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs. If only one parent / carer is a key worker, we assume that this would not apply for their children.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think that you may be classified as a “key worker” or your child has additional needs (eg. EHCP etc)

Please contact the office giving details of your job by Friday 20th March 12pm.  We will be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to and we will be open on Monday for these children.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.

It is vitally important that our school remains in contact with our community and we will do this as much as possible mainly through ParentMail and the website . If you should need to contact the school please do so using the office email address:

I appreciate that the sudden closure will cause a lot of inconvenience and concern, but it is important that we follow government guidance. I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding and reassure you that the school will remain in contact during the period of closure. l will update you further as soon as possible.

I am sure you will join me in thanking the staff for their herculean effort in ensuring Google Classroom is ready to go live.  They have done this in a very short space of time, and it has been a whole team effort.  We expect a few teething issues, but these should be easily rectified.  Please check tonight that your child can access Google Classroom from home by following the instructions in yesterday’s ParentMail. Oak, Maple and Willow children have all logged on today and have been using the platform so should be familiar with the system. For those children not in school today, please follow the Parent’s Guide and use the 123ICT helpdesk contact information sent yesterday as necessary.  Please be patient if you don’t get an immediate response.  Your child will be coming home today with Home Learning Books and a pack of 7 weekly learning projects.  These are to be used as a backup in the event of technology failure.

Thank you for all your kind words of support for the school.  We are proud of our wonderful children, parents and carers and we really look forward to the next time that we can be together as a whole school family.

Kind regards,

Jon Jeffries
